{"id":437,"date":"2016-11-30T21:19:40","date_gmt":"2016-11-30T21:19:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.eastcentral.edu\/board-policies\/?page_id=437"},"modified":"2026-04-01T17:40:48","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T17:40:48","slug":"faculty-rank-and-promotion","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.eastcentral.edu\/board-policies\/personnel\/faculty-rank-and-promotion\/","title":{"rendered":"5.49 Faculty Rank and Promotion"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>(Approved 9-8-1998; Revised 2-2-2004, 7-12-2010; Reaffirmed 11-4-2013)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Appointments of faculty to academic rank will be made by the Board of Trustees upon the recommendation of the President and the Chief Academic Officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Procedures <\/strong> <em>(Revised 7-12-2010, 11-4-2013, 6-13-2022)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5.49.1<\/strong>     Applicable faculty job titles include Instructor (default appointment at hire), Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor.\u00a0The College reserves the right to make appointments to Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor at hire based on established criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5.49.2<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Faculty on continuing contracts are eligible to receive rank promotions and associated salary adjustments based upon established criteria and a review conducted by the Rank and Promotion Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5.49.3<\/strong>     Criteria for promotion are available in the office of the Chief Academic Officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5.49.4     <\/strong>The College reserves the right to suspend the rank and promotion system should budget conditions warrant.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(Approved 9-8-1998; Revised 2-2-2004, 7-12-2010; Reaffirmed 11-4-2013) Appointments of faculty to academic rank will be made by the Board of Trustees upon the recommendation of the President and the Chief Academic Officer.
