Carried out  from surface vessels or increasingly, from AUV. The following equipmnnet spread is commonly used:

Multibeam echsounder

Sidescan sonar

Sub-botom profiler

Magnetometer

Single beam echosounder

CTD / Sound velocity probe

 

Predicted tides or tide gauge observations are used to reduce depths to MSL or LAT. The following positioning equipment is often used:

GNSS PPP, RTK and DGPS

Gyrocompasses

USBL and LBL acoustic positioning

Total station positioning for alongside platform rigmoves

Shoreline surveys; leveling from tideguage to becnmark; vessel offset and dimcon surveys:
